The Lovely List

This is Maeve’s 10th week of life. That’s 2 1/2 months!

It’s hard to believe, but she’s such a big girl now. She is getting chubby cheeks and cute dimply ankles. She’s even starting to develop a real interest in toys. Mostly, she loves rattles, but I have my eye on this adorable wood stacking toy for her when she is a bit older. These are lovely as well, don’t you think?

And, while we’re on the subject of little ones, my friend Lisa makes adorable and wonderfully soft baby t-shirts. Maeve was lucky enough to receive one as a gift. Thanks Lisa!

As you know from my last post, I’m starting to think more and more about Spring fashion and accessories. Mostly, I’ve got to keep it practical so that I can take my wee one out on the town without too much trouble.

Please inform my husband I need a low heeled sandal like this golden oneThis one is sort of like a bootie and I think it’s lovely too.

Oh, and here are some more booties in the above picture. I knit them myself, if you can believe it. I’m actually not much of a knitter, but I am trying to learn. I hear this Vogue Bookis a great resource. Any other suggestions?

I must get back to my little one now. I wish you a great weekend! I’ll be back next week. In the meantime, I suggest you make some cookies. I made these oatmeal cookies again this week and they went very quickly . . .

Those are adorable! I love the little pompoms! As far as resources, I love http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com as a general knitting resource. They’re an index of free patterns and they also have a stitch index which is nice if you’re following a pattern and need a reminder of stitches or if you’re looking for an unusual stitch to incorporate into something. I don’t have a little one, but for grown-ups, Fitted Knits by Stefanie Japel is a fun book that has a lot of cool patterns for fashionable women like ourselves. And her patterns are not too complicated. Top down knitting is nice because you can measure things on yourself as you go, so if things need to be longer/shorter you can kind of tell before you finish the garment and put it on only to realize proportions are off (e.g. the aran sweater I made my dad that had monkey arms). Google the errata whenever you buy a knit book, though. No one edits anything well, and too often I start a pattern only to realize something is wrong. It’s best to know beforehand. Also http://www.knitandtonic.com – is Wendy Barnard’s website. She has a book that also revolves around topdown knitting, but she has a lot of patterns available for sale. I think of her in particular because she has a daughter and I believe she has patterns that will be perfect for little Maeve once she hits above five or six (a ways off, I know, but her stuff is adorable and her grown up knits are very cute as well). And if you want to learn to work with color, I love my Essential Guide to Color Knitting, it’s a fabulous resource with patters for practice at the end of each chapter. Can you tell I love my knitting? And my new website is up! So I’m now linking to that, exciting! A small designer is also featuring some of my work (and I get to be a model!) in a photo shoot this weekend, so things are kind of starting up.

      Liz,
What a fabulous response. I really really appreciate all of your thoughts and recommendations. Wonderful!

If I become even remotely close to the wonderful knitter that you are, I’ll be happy :)

Can’t wait to check out your new site. Good luck on the modeling. I am sure you will be gorgeous, as always. And, for what it’s worth, Kirk always reminds me to keep my chin down and relax my face. I am the subject of a lot of photos…

I just found your blog today and I`m loving it – so many ideas for delicious meals. I don`t knit myself but I`ve heard very good things about Purls of Wisdom by Jenny Lord. Your daughter is adorable – enjoy every minute of her. My son is almost 3 and it seems just yesterday that he was shaking his little clenched fists in the air. Will take a look at the cookies now. Have a great weekend!

I wish I could knit. I have knitter envy. One day, when my five are grown and I’m not so busy…well, it’s on my bucket list to learn. The pom pom is a sweet finish!

Congratulations on Maeve’s 10th week. She looks really, really pretty. (And I’m not saying this just because she is a baby — they are cute babies, but then there are also cuter ones. Yours is from the cuter ones :) )
I definitely think the wooden blocks look lovely! I’m sure she’ll have a lot of fun with them ;)
As for the knitting — are you interested in just knitting baby items, or also other ones as well? Let me know, and I might suggest some books.

      Hi Claudie,
Thanks so much for your comment. Maeve is really happy. I feel so lucky about that. As far as knitting goes, I’m pretty much limiting myself to baby items. Need small projects for nap times! xoxo

Then I would consider the “One skein wonders” books. (I’ve got the “101 Designer One Skein Wonders”, but all of them look good from what I’ve seen.) They have plenty of baby projects, many of which are really cute, and since they are based on one skein, they are perfect for nap times :)

You should check out http://ravelry.com for knitting. You can get all kinds of patterns, tips. I like it because I’ll find a pattern I like, and then I can read comments and tips from other people who have knit it.

a local yarn shop also proved to be invaluable when I was getting started.

These days/weeks do go by quick! Gabriel is 1 1/2 months now and is growing like a weed–I think he is already bigger than your sweet little Maeve. :) The booties you knit are beautiful! Hope you are keeping well.

It is amazing how quickly time passes. I have several friends at work who had babies last year and I feel that “has that much time passed?” shock every time I see the little ones.
Lovely booties… The baby things are so cute..everything is so little! My grandma knits like crazy, I get a baby sweater every now and then in the mail, reminding me I should get busy:)
Enjoy your little one and your spring fashion quest.
    Have a lovely week…

They’re lovely, aren’t they? I have a set of skittles that I’m saving for Maeve’s first birthday from Little Sapling Toys. Can’t wait. Well, I suppose I can actually wait for her birthday. Time is precious!
